So I decided to attend a Mayan new year

You maybe asking yourself, what is a Mayan new year, well, if you have some time, wiki about the Mayans here

On saturday, the Mayans celebrated their new year - 5000 years +. This is the first time i actually attend one. It's a very small event that has been taking place by a group of Mayan decedents, it started about 6 years ago.

My parents have always invited me to join the event, but have always found an excuse not to go - let's just say i am not into that thing.

So this year i joined them. They gave me a ride, we ended up in North Vancouver, in a reserve(Native Land), behind a house, surrounded by mountain and a creek a few steps away. The ceremony begun around 12pm and ended at about 2:30pm. Most people that attend this yearly event are relatives.

The Mayan priests gave thanks to various Mayan Gods for giving us life, health, food, so on an so forth, it was all done in their Mayan Language. They were kneeled down around a small fire. During their worship, they threw candles, corn, bits of chocolates, salt, some vegetables, flowers, vinegar.

It was worth the trip, I found out that my uncle, auntie, and some other close relatives are Mayan priests!
