Remove Bing as your default search engine in the address bar in Firefox

Firefox is my favorite browser, i use it a lot for searching using the address bar, i would just type what i am looking for and i would get the results using Google Search.

Firefox uses Google as the default search engine. But recently, this changed, instead of Google search, i get Bing, the new(just the name) search engine from Microsoft.

If you are in the same scenario as me, let me show you how to change or remove Bing as the default search engine in the address bar.

Here's how. I am using quotes just for highlighting.

Open Firefox, in the address bar, type "about:config", if it does not work, add a space(push the Space Bar) after config "about:config ", then hit enter.

You will get a warning, accept it and continue, Now in the Filter bar, type "keyword.URL", double click on it, a window will pop up, enter the next text, then click OK after.

You don't even need to restart Firefox in order to test the changes.
You have changed from Bing to Google Search engine now.

My browser was hijacked by Bing.

Thank you so much for helping me remove it!

I don't ever recall being asked whether I wanted bing as my default search engine, I think it may have happened after installing Internet Explorer. Malware is (according to wiki) "Software designed to infiltrate or damage a computer system without the owner's informed consent".

Thankyou Microsoft, I shall never knowingly use your products again.

When I wawakened

When I wawakened and went to my home office this morning, I became quite ENRAGED when I booted my PC and opened Firefox only to find that total third-rate, grade "Z" failure of a search engine Bing, instead of my MUCH PREFERRED iGoogle homepage. What really TICKED me off, when tried to restore my default page was that my browser would NOT stay reset!!! Needless to say my UTTER DISTRUST of Microsoft was reinforced to nuclear proportions. I have not been able to get past the feeling hat Windows Vista was a "beta" version foisted on the end-user community! (I still want my money back for THAT pile of "scat".)

THANK YOU SOoooo... for posting your solution and detailed instructions; it more than saved me from the Bing " Grenade." How if only find a way to permanently block that plethora of porno spam my email-box is constantly bombard with via Windows Live Essentials.

Whatecer the case, thank you, again for the fix! B^D
